JG- How did you get started? As in the modeling and film work? Which came first?

HI - I was actually a singer and live performer before I ever posed for a single photo or thought about working in B horror films. I got my start in musical theater, and sang solo and with choirs and bands from the age of 5 until I was about 22. Unfortunately, I sort of lost touch with the music world after I became busy with college, but fell into modeling a year later. I shot a couple photo sets with some local photographers for submission to Suicide Girl, as just about every alternative, nudity-loving, young female in my generation has done. However, after seeing the business, social and legal horror that SG had become, I posted the photos on ModelMayhem.com instead. I accepted my first, paid photo shoot in January of 2008, and the rest is history. I accepted gigs in nearby Chicago and around Indiana until I could finish college and travel, which I have been doing for a little under a year. I became interested in doing B-movies on the side after meeting Director/Producer Jason Hignite, Actress/Model Kitsie Duncan, and Director/Producer Chris Jay. After working as a model for Kitsie and Chris’s former website, they offered me a role in their film project, Lethal Obsession. Jason Hignite, the Director, and I really clicked while working together. He and fellow horror Producer Marv Blauvelt later offered me a role in their upcoming project, “Lewis,” which was recently released to film festivals. I owe all of the fun projects of which I’ve been a part to the great networking connections I’ve made through my enthusiasm for horror.

JG- Is film something that you want to do more of? What other genres would you be interested in doing aside from horror?

HI-Acting roles aren’t something I normally seek on my own. I usually only accept roles in films to which I am networked. I still don’t consider myself an actress, especially since I’ve only had small parts in a few films. I participate in B horror movies because they’re fun! Being on set is more like hanging out with a bunch of interesting, fun, new friends. I also love working on these types of films because I just love horror. Blood, gore, guts, and ghosts, usually mixed with a little nudity, excite me. I’d love to work on more B horror projects, and I will probably continue to do so as long as I am still offered roles by all the amazing people I’ve met. I doubt I’d ever explore another genre because I have more passionate for blood and gore than I have for acting in general. I’d most love to be in a Troma production!

JG- I know you have a comfy spot in regards to doing nudity in films and modeling, how do you feel this has either helped you or maybe hindered you in getting projects?

HI-If my sense of comfort with nudity in photos and films has ever hindered anything about my current line of work, I have yet to see it. I obviously (and, quite positively, only) get more modeling offers because I do nudes, and the same would probably apply to B-movie roles if I acted more often. I was offered my roles in Lewis and Lethal Obsession precisely because both production teams had seen my modeling work. That of the former film also knew just how much I loved playing roles that were naked, bloody, and, frankly, fucked-up.

JG- In film- how do you feel the industry has perceived you as a new actress- in regards to doing horror and nude scenes- do you feel that it has put you into a corner of one genre and that folks may request you to act because they want the “gorgeous gal who gets nude” ? What are your thoughts on this ?
( I hope I worded it right lol- I was fumbling for wording that would be respectful and understood!)

HI-I haven’t thought a single bit about any possible dilemma such as this because it doesn’t worry me at all. First, I’m not even an actress. I do not claim to be good enough at acting to take on any role outside of the “hot girl that gets naked.” I’m quite content to play that role forever because I do not wish to act full-time. Second, acting in films is more of a hobby, and I can therefore do what I want, when I want. It’s nice not to have to worry about how my decisions will affect a potential acting career. I’ll take the roles that sound fun and peak my interest, and turn down the roles that do not. It’s as simple as that. If I ever feel pigeon-holed, I’ll turn down whichever types of roles are doing the deed.

JG- If you had to choose between film and modeling- which would you choose?

HI-I actually like being on film sets and making movies more than being photographed. The whole process is more interesting and there are more opportunities to make some really hilarious memories. I’d probably have to choose modeling, though. I’m really not much of a serious actress.

JG- I saw where you are a fan of Joanna Angel- if she would ask you to be a part of a film , would you do it ?

HI-I love Joanna’s work! I’d actually want to work for her company behind-the-scenes or in the office much more than on-camera. I’d love to model for her site, but I don’t do hardcore porn, which is BurningAngel’s biggest focus right now. However, I bet Miss Angel could probably talk me into doing some girl/girl scenes quite easily. (I know she’s not reading this, but I’d totally do it, Joanna!)

JG- Now for easier and non “lets talk nakedness” one- lol- where would be your dream location for a model shot? Anywhere in the world !

HI-I’d love to shoot in one of Ireland’s gothic, gloomy church cemeteries. I’ve never been there, but I’ve seen photographs of the gorgeous relics of ancient churches and graves. Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia would also make for some gorgeous captures.

JG- If you had opportunity to star in a movie- NON horror- what kind would you love to do? Are there any particular stars or directors you would love to act with ?

HI-I’d like to do more avant-garde movies that scare and disturb in a different way. I’ve been told I’m a Stephen Lynch girl, which was probably the biggest compliment I’ve ever received. I particularly love the work of Lars Von Trier, Darren Aronofsky, John Waters, and Quentin Tarantino. I would also kill to act in a movie alongside and directed by Tommy Wiseau of The Room.

JG- If I snagged your IPOD- what music would I find on it?? Any guilty pleasures that might be surprising??

HI-I listen to all kinds of music and love changing genres throughout the day. I’ll start out listening to Depeche Mode, Rage Against The Machine, and Nine Inch Nails, then switch to The Beach Boys and REM, and then find myself playing Tori Amos and Rasputina. I don’t actually consider my guilty pleasures to be all that guilty, but my boyfriend teases me about my old Lilith Fair and Sarah McLachlan cds from high school.

JG-. Last but not least- what is an average day like in the life of Hollis Ireland? What do you enjoy doing to unwind and chill ?

HI- I used to be a huge partier and social butterfly in college, but I have mellowed-out a lot since then. I still love to drink with friends and get dressed-up to go out, though. I also love the outdoors. Camping, fishing, hiking, swimming, and kayaking are some of my favorite activities. I prefer to spend the rest of my time relaxing on the couch with my boyfriend. We grab some wine, snacks, and a few movies, and just enjoy each other’s company.

JG - How did you come about to be in Beverly Lane?

NE-I was involved with "BL" from the start, essentially. Josh and I worked together briefly, and at our place of employment (which shall remain nameless) we would throw ridiculous ideas around for movies/TV shows,
just to pass the time. When the idea for "BL" was formed and in it's infancy stage, it was to be a animated musical web-series. We've come a long way since then, I suppose. But the more the idea got fleshed out,
Josh wanted me to play the role of Andy and I insisted I would give it my best shot. We quickly scrapped the musical aspect, due to either laziness or just being realistic, and then decided that doing "BL" as a live-action project
would probably be in the best interest of all those involved. 2 years later, here we are. I've heard worse indie-film success stories.


JG- Is this a path you would like to pursue more in , acting ? If so- what are your thoughts on the types of films youd like to do ?

NE-Yes, I would like to pursue acting a bit more. I didn't think I would, in fact I told Josh and Jim (the DP on the film) that "BL" would be my first and only movie. But much like being bit by a vampire,
I have a thirst for it now. I would assume that sticking to comedic roles would be my best bet, and I enjoy that quite a bit, but part of me would love to try my hand at drama.
Those tend to be my favorite films. The more self-aware part of me knows that I would fall flat on my face, but it would be fun to hold a gun while chasing a bad guy and shout "Stop! Put it down! Hands in the air, asshole!"
or some derivation thereof. :)

JG What else would you do ,aside from acting , or what would you do if you were not acting at all ?

NE-Aside from acting, my priorities are focused on music still. I've been bouncing around, making a living as a musician since 2004.
There have been some good times and then there have been times where I have eaten ramen noodles for dinner every night for a while.
I recently decided to take a break from my solo stuff last year, to focus exclusively on Soft Skills, which is a band I sing and play organ in with my two best friends in the world.

JG-What was your favorite type of film as a child? Was there a horror film that scared the hell outta you that even today you still remember the feeling you got as a kid when you see it today?

NE-My favorite films growing up were sports movies. I am a sports junkie. I inject it intravenously and have been unwilling to kick the habit,
much to the behest of my family and friends. "Major League" and "Rocky IV" were my favorite movies growing up. Toss in "The Mighty Ducks" and "Hoosiers".
As far as horror movies that terrified me as a child, I'd say the first time I saw "Pet Cemetery" I recall knowing that I was far too young to be watching it.
The scene where the kid is hiding under the bed and slices the old man's Achilles tendon open with the scalpel,
I watched that one by peeking through my fingers while I covered my face in terror.


JG- Now- you have acted- would you ever want to delve in deeper and take reigns and direct a film?

NE-Directing sounds quite tempting at first glance, but I doubt I'd have the stomach for it.
From what I can tell, it's a lot of work and I am far too lazy to pursue something like that. I'd probably be better off leaving that to someone more qualified,
and with a more keen artistic eye. I have enough friends that are budding directors that if I really wanted to I could possibly convince them into a
Coen Brothers situation where I could co-direct an extremely independent film alongside.


JG- I see you studied Broadcasting At Anderson University! What are your hopes with doing broadcasting? Are you still going to follow that road to a broadcasting career and make film a hobby on the side”

NE-I studied Broadcasting because my mom convinced me that I need to get a degree in something, anything, so that I would have something tangible to fall back on once this "music thing" ran it's course.
As a kid, that's all I wanted to be -- a sportscaster. I would buy "Joe Montana: Sports Talk Football" video games and turn the volume to MUTE and do my own play-by-play in front of the TV.
I wanted be exactly like Bob Costas, but with less makeup. Who knows, maybe that will be my next venture.


JG- Who are some of your favorite stars, and directors? If you had the opportunity to work on a film by one of those stars / directors- who would you hope it would be and why?

NE-My favorite actor recently has been Ryan Gosling -- that dude is about to completely blow up. He makes impeccable choices in which films he decides to do.
The guy makes nothing but quality movies lately. He can do comedy, drama, anything he wants to. And women lose their goddamn minds at the mere thought of him.
Not bad work, if you can get it. If I could work on any project I want, I would want a guest role on "Curb Your Enthusiasm". Larry David is hands-down the funniest man alive
and just to be in a scene with him would allow me to die a happy man.

JG- So Roxy- now that you have several films under your belt-where do you want to go with your career? Are you wanting to expand out from horror and do other type of projects? If so- what would you like to do ?

RV- I love doing horror films ! Horror has the ability to combine all genres into one. There are moments in some of the horror films I’ve done that range from totally hilarious to truly dramatic. Most people think of me as a “Horror Darling”, but I’ve done some serious dramatic acting as well. In “Crumble” I played a heroin addict on the edge and in “John’s Story” I played an abusive alcoholic mother. Those roles were extremely challenging and very rewarding at the same time. I got to go to places as an actor that I had never been before. Fellow actor Jeremy James Douglas Norton and I were recently talking about we wish someone would cast us in a sweet, funny romantic comedy! We always get the serious roles!


JG- If I snagged your IPOD- what would you be listening to ? Anything that might surprise your fans?

RV -You’d probably be shocked by how eclectic my musical taste is. I have playlists that jump from Rob Zombie to Madonna and then to Eminem and The Beatles. I like a little bit of everything. My fans would probably be surprised by how much country music I love. I’m not talking about modern country though. I’m talking old George Strait, Garth Brooks and Reba McIntyre.

JG- How has your life changed with your health situation ? How has it affected your every day life?

RV-I’m a pretty open when it comes to the health issues I’ve had this year. I mean, I don’t want to give a sob story or anything, but I survived MeningoEncephalitis this spring and I’ve been in recovery for several months. I still battle with certain things. The virus eats holes in your brain tissue and affects certain cognitive functions. Many of those issues have healed with time, but my short term memory has suffered the most. Anyone who has suffered a long-term illness can attest to the fact that the most difficult part is the depression that can come with it. Being sick for a long time can get you down and make it very difficult to come back into the world and feel normal. I’m still working with doctors on those issues.


JG- Where would you love to live in this world? Anywhere but USA ! What would be your reasoning for choosing that country or city?

RV -This question is difficult because I would never want to leave Texas. Particularly Houston. We have the best food! Tex-Mex. Texas style Bar-B-Que. You just can’t beat it. But I suppose if you held a gun to my head, I’d have to choose to live in London. I chose London because I’d want to live in an English-speaking country first and foremost, and I’d also like to visit nearby Scotland and Ireland, the places of my ancestry.

JG- I hear about how awesome and fun your birthday parties are - but I am in Indy and your in Houston- so its hard to get there for them! Care to share some fun details about you most recent birthday party?? Any crazy must be over 21+ wildness on your crazy day ???

RV-My most recent birthday party was on September 17th. I had a blast walking the runway in some rock-a-billy pin-up fashions and seeing some kickass live bands with my friends. But really, any party with me has a tendency to get pretty wild. I am happy to report that this birthday was the first party I’ve had in many years where all of my clothes stayed on!

JG- If you were given a choice to pick an era - a new era for you to live in- what era would that be?

RV -Well, while I love the convenience of cell phones and computers, I think if I had to choose another era it would be the Golden Age of Hollywood. The late 50’s/early 60’s. Elvis, The Beatles, Marilyn Monroe! Women with curves were more appreciated and being stick-thin wasn’t crammed down women’s throat the way it is now. A lot of people will tell you “Marilyn Monroe was a size 12”. What they forget to mention is that a size 12 in 1962 is NOT the same as a size 12 in 2011. Sizing has changed dramatically over the past half a century and the truth is, Marilyn today would be closer to a size 6. Which is a great size in my opinion. Thin, but healthy and with CURVES! I’m so tired of the fashion standard of beauty being a size 2 or smaller. I have a Marilyn figure and I’m proud!


JG- If you were NOT doing any modeling or acting- it was simply out of the question- what would you like to do ? Was there a dream job that you thought of as a young girl but never pursued?

RV -Wow. I don’t know. I’ve been in the industry for most of my adult life. I wouldn’t know what to do without it. I mean, I’ve worked as a bartender in some great bars and clubs, but that isn’t exactly a “dream job”. I think I would like to own my own bar though. Having been an employee in that line of work, I think I’d make a great boss because I’d know what the employees and customers would actually want and need to keep them happy.


JG- How would you describe yourself? Not the way you feel others see you- but as you see you!

RV -I think I’m a little bit like a Sour Patch Kid. I take some getting used to, and I know that about myself, but once you get to know me you’ll find that I’m really sweet inside, my intentions are always good and I’ll give you the shirt off my back. I’m honest and trusting to a fault. I get attached to people really easily, and I also have the capacity to get hurt really easily. I have a tough girl exterior, but I’m just like everybody else. I worry about the future, fret over what people think of me and sometimes I cry for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Don’t get me wrong though, if you cross me or hurt someone I love I will become a Lioness and rip your fucking face off.

JG- Last but not least- when you’re 70 years old and you look back on your career, based on what you’ve achieved thus far- , what would you say is your defining moment? What film would you say is the film that you are most proud or fond of?

RV -Without a doubt, without hesitation, “Spirit Camp” is my pride and joy. I left my heart, soul, blood, sweat and tears in that film. It was simultaneously the most challenging and most rewarding experience of my life. I’d go back and film it all over again if I could.

JG- Are you originally from Philly ? What was it like growing up in Philly ?

RT-Yes, I’ve lived in Philadelphia since I was two years old but I was born in San Francisco, California. Growing up in Philadelphia was fun because we have so much history in our city. Even after all this time going to center city to see the Liberty Bell and Betsy Ross house and all that fun stuff is still an adventure. On the other hand it was rough too. I went to public school in Philadelphia and let’s just say it thickened my skin a lot. Normally I would prize the hardships in my life but growing up in the public school system of Philly is something I’d give back. You learn more about survival than you do about academics. I would have rather learned academics.

JG- Having the Carnival of Horrors- what was your inspiration in taking this endeavor on? Was there a movie or a show that hit you that you one day said “ I have to do this?” ?

RT-Actually no. There was no movie or show that inspired the Carnival of Horrors. I really loved carnivals when I was growing up. My friends and I would go to at least two of them a year. We had the State Fair close by to us which doesn’t operate anymore because there’s now a casino there. I originally appeared on Midnite Mausoleum because Blake Powell, one of the co-creators of Modnite Mausoleum is a friend of mine and he was familiar with my book “Big Boots and Black Hair Dye” which Roxsy Tyler makes appearances in. So, I actually went on Midnite Mausoleum in episode #116 to help host Carnival of Souls. It was fun. I didn’t expect to be doing my own show but months after that people kept giving me plenty of reason to and asking me to give it a try so that’s what I did. The show has been running for a year and a half now.

JG- What would you be doing if you were not doing the Carnival? Did you have a different idea as you grew up and then- viola- here you are this opportunity?

RT-The only thing I wanted to be when I was a little girl was a writer. I was completely on course with pursuing a career in writing. I went to school for it, I put out my own book by the time I was 19 years old which is a bit dated now but I wanted to do it and so I did it. I still hope to write more books in the future. Right now I’m pursuing acting and video editing.

JG -How did you get all the folks together for the Carnival ? Were you all friends before hand- or did you have to go on the prowl to find everyone?

RT-The first person initially assigned to the cast was Johnnie 13 who I thought would be just a guest host from time to time. I didn’t know how committed Johnnie would be to the show but a year and a half later he’s been in every single episode. I met Johnnie during the book launch party of “Big Boots and Black Hair Dye” which is where my Carnival of Horrors originated. Johnnie accompanied his cousin to the party who happened to be a friend of mine and Johnnie often expressed his love for the Roxsy Tyler stories. By the time we started the show I had known him about four years and our tastes always matched when it came to horror. Plus, Johnnie is a charismatic guy and I know he’d bring a lot to the table. Mr. Potent is my boyfriend and the one who helps me keep the production together. He’s on and off camera. Our cast is made up of people we know and people I met along the way. Our newest cast member is Chuck Maher who plays Dr. Villhelm. Johnnie already knew him and I had only met him just last year. Chuck is always onboard. Just a fun-loving guy who likes to be involved with things. I have a great cast. We also had my friend Christopher Walter who played Charlene who I’m trying to write back in because he’s talented and we like having him here with us. I love my cast.

JG-hat is your all time favorite horror film ?

RT-Theater of Blood starring Vincent Price. Props to Tom Detrik for getting me a copy of that!

JG- If you could take your show on the road--- anywhere NOT in USA- where would you dream of going and why?

RT-There’s a lot of places I’d like to take my show. I would love to go to Canada because I have some awesome fans from there. The U.K. Japan and maybe even Italy. I don’t know how big I’d be in Italy but I would like to go someday. I’m Italian. Maybe I’m just biased.

JG- Do you have a guilty pleasure that is typically known about you ? Care to share? Such as , maybe a closet disco fanatic ? Maybe a huge fan of the romance novel ??

RT-NO to the romance novels! Burn them! It’s hard for me to answer that because I don’t feel guilty about anything I like or enjoy. Months ago I posted on my face book that I was re-watching the first Spice Girls concert… but I was damn proud of it!

JG- What is an average day like for you- what does it take to keep the Carnival going?

RT-It takes a lot of determination to keep the carnival going. We’re a no budget production and usually we’re doing our show with very little free time. The boys all have jobs and I’m actually the homemaker in my household. I’m the one that cleans the house, does the laundry, stuff like that. An average day at my home isn’t by any means average though. We’re usually always filming something whether it be Carnival of Horrors, a film, or even the occasional music video. Mr. Potent and I usually end every night on couch with our cats and playing Resident Evil 5 in Mercenaries mode on Xbox.

JG-Now how about this Giant Rubber Monster Movie ? How did this all come along? I saw at least part of it a while back- looks like you had a blast!

RT-Thomas Berdinski approached me with that. I think he and I knew each other mutually through Midnite Mausoleum. Giant Rubber Monster Movie is like a tribute to old Japanese monster movies and TV shows starring a lot of horror hosts. Marlena and Robyn are in it from Midnite Mausoleum, Dr. Sigmund Zoid who plays an awesome villain. Count and Countess Gregula are also in it and I’m he narrator. It’s basically about this evil vegetarian who goes back in time to kill all the animals so we have no meat to eat in the future and the fate of our meat populous resides in the bravery of a little boy named Miko from the future. It’s a really fun movie. We actually hosted it for our Horrorhound episode which can be found at our main site

JG- Now your getting your chance to act- as with the above- but also with Deer Crossing ! Is this something you want to pursue more in future? Maybe become more and more involved in film , more projects in the works????

RT-I do want to pursue acting in the future. I hope to be a part of many more film projects. I’m available people. Get on the horn… or the phone… and call me! I might be starring in a film called White Balance next year by Browntown Films and Potent Media. It’s still up in the air but I hope it happens. I’m also slated to be a part of Zombie Hunters: City of the Dead season two as a character named Cassandra Marx. I’m also playing a crazy lady in Thomas Berdinski’s next short film Noirmegeddon. I’m available. Start sending me some scripts people!

okay everyone- here is another brilliant masterpiece by Maude Michaud , the director of Bloody Breasts (a mini series on women in horror )-this is quite remarkable- Maude has an amazing ability to make a short so complete - great visually , musically, and great folks to be in the films!This little film- the while KARMA will bite your ass idea- BIG TIME!! A womanizing man meets his match in the gorgeous Olga-damn, she is wonderful!She is stunningly gore-geous, and so alluring. Even a little cameo of the beautiful Shannon Lark, that sold me right there! Isabelle Stephen was wondrous and the only male role in the short played by Cameron Hartl was great also ! If I were you- I would keep a check on Maudes website to keep up with this up and coming amazing young woman of horror! Yes- I am doting- and yes I cannot say enough good things about her- she really is the real deal as a young woman director with a vision for greatness in horror and film in general- dont wait to jump on a bandwagon- be one of the first to show that she rocks- and is worthy of our support!

Today was a wonderful day- I spent some time with two folks that inspire me and encourage me so much! I am sure , if you know me at all, you will be able to geuss who these gals are! JG- GROWING UP IN SMALL TOWN INDIANA- WHAT WAS THAT LIKE FOR YOU?

JH -It was great & still is. I think growing up in such a small Midwest town really
groomed the storyteller in me. You have to rely more on imagination & build your
surroundings. It's not like living in the city & trying to focus on a hundred
things at one time. I mentioned the other day that living in a small town &
growing up on 7 acres of "farm land" was ultimately my film school. My house was
surrounded by corn fields, my friends & I would play ghost in the grave yard
every weekend. The atmosphere would take over! My love for horror is 100%
grounded in that town. Plus no one does Halloween like Pendleton, Indiana! Maybe
Haddonfield but no one else!

JG- DO YOU FEEL THAT THE SMALL TOWN EXPIERENCE GAVE YOU MORE OF AN EDGE ON THE
IMAGINATION , NOT MUCH TO DO, FIGURE OUT WAYS TO OCCUPY YOUR TIME? DID THIS
INFLUENCE YOUR DESIRE TO GO INTO FILM?

JH -Absolutely! I touched on that above a little bit. We would definitely occupy
our time with horror films, visiting local "haunted" spots & trying our best to
scare each other. Eventually that did lead to us wanting to make horror films.
That was a passion & goal that wasn't met until Beverly Lane.

JG- WHAT GUIDED YOUR WAY INTO FILM INSTEAD OF LETS SAY , MUSIC , OR ART (AS IN
PAINTING,OR PHOTOGRAPHY)?

JH-The passion for film heavily outweighed the others. I come from a very large,
very creative family. My mom used to paint & sell art at craft festivals. I
have 4 brothers that cover the art, music & GOOD writing side of things! I've
always wanted to make movies & never stopped pursuing that goal. Thankfully it
finally happened! I've messed around with music & always will. I actually wrote
a song with my youngest brother specifically for a scene in Beverly Lane. As far
as the art side of things, you've clearly never seen my attempts at
storyboarding!

JG- WAS THERE A MOVIE AS A KID THAT SCARED THE HELL OUT OF YOU ,THAT TODAY BRINGS
BACK THOSE FOND MEMORIES OF BEING A SMALL TOWN BOY AND SNEAKING THE LATE NIGHT
HORROR FILM ON TV?

JH-Hands down, it's HALLOWEEN! I remember being very young when my mom let me
watch it for the 1st time. That viewing shaped (no pun intended there..) my
"horror" path if you will! Halloween created a thirst for anything I could get
my hands on at the little local video shop. My house was surrounded by
cornfields so Children Of The Corn terrified me! I had to hide my face in a
pillow the 1st time I saw THE BLOB. My brothers would watch films late at night
& I remember sitting on the stairs at a very young age watching the original I
SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE. That did things to me. I saw Camille Keaton in person at
Days Of The Dead & relived that entire experience! I felt like giving her a hug!

JG- YOU HAVE BEVERLY LANE OUT , WHICH IS DOING AWESOME, PEOPLE LOVE IT! NOW YOUR
WORKING ON IDIOT GORE WITH SOME MORE AMAZING PEOPLE, WHAT IS NEXT? ANYTHING ON
HORIZION?

JH -Yeah it's sort of a crazy time right now! Beverly has opened so many doors &
right now I'm just trying to pick & choose the best direction. I feel like I'm
at this strange point where nothing is happening but everything is happening if
that makes sense. We've had to delay IDIOT GORE due to many reasons (some good,
some bad..) & now I'm trying to figure out if I want to sneak another film in
before we finally roll on IG.

I have about 4-5 projects at some stage of development right now. I have a
small, straight slasher film I'm feeling the itch to direct but I'm weighing
things. If I direct that then I'd hate to direct Idiot Gore (a slasher, comedy)
right after it. I had a HUGE call yesterday with the writer of a very well
known horror comic book series & it sounds like we'll be working together on a
script I plan on directing. I'm excited about where things are heading & the
path I'm paving.

JG- NOW MY BIG QUESTION IS THIS- DUDE- YOU GOT JIM O’REAR FOR BEVERLY LANE, NOW
YOU HAVE QUITE THE INDIE CAST ALREADY LINED UP FOR IDIOT GORE!! DAMN ! HOW DO
YOU GET ALL THESE COOL FOLKS??? IS IT YOUR CHARISMA?? PROMISE FLOWERS AND
DOUGHNUTS?? NOW IS YOUR CHANCE TO BRAG ABOUT YOUR SUAVENESS!

JH-Actually if you must know, the Beverly cast had free donuts all 4 days on set!
Honestly I've lucked out. I'm incredibly lucky & fortunate for the cast we
assembled for Beverly Lane. Keep in mind it was my 1st film..so the fact ANYONE
agreed to be in it is incredible! I credit this to the people I've surrounded
myself with. O'Rear was a bonus & an incredible one at that!

I think the talent we've attracted to IDIOT is just a result of actually
finishing a film & having it out there. So many people try to make a film but
they fail. It's hard man! So when you see people that are doing it, you
naturally want to be a part of it. It's exciting! I'm sure promising people nude
scenes with O'Rear doesn't hurt!

JG- WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM MOVIE TO DO? WHY? AND WHO WOULD IT HAVE STARRING IN
IT?

JH-Tough question. I'm actually in the process of developing one of many "dream
projects" & I have a good chance of getting the script into the hands of the
"dream cast" for it. But impossible dream projects? I'm going to cheat, I have 2
that I would drop anything to do!

Number one is 1 would to write/direct a HALLOWEEN film. I would drop anything &
go pitch it right now! You want a found footage Halloween? You got it. You want
me to bring Josh Hartnett back? You got it. I don't care if it's sequel #13 or
reboot # 4. I will direct Michael Myers at some point in my career! My only
stipulation would be a Paul Rudd cameo. Wait whats that? You don't want Paul
Rudd? You got it..

2nd would be to adapt a comic book/graphic novel. I'm not going to be picky.
Honestly I'm not. I love my funny books. I'd prefer DAREDEVIL or X-MEN or
hell..even AQUAMAN (starring Adrian Grenier of course..) Marvel could contact me
today about adapting DAZZLER & I'd be game!

JG- YOU ARE GIVEN GREEN LIGHT TO DO A FILM- THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HORROR OR
EVEN SCI FI- WHAT KIND OF FILM WOULD IT BE AND WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHOOT ,
AS IN A DREAM LOCATION?

JH-Nothing to do with horror or sci fi?? Wow. I'd love to direct a movie about the
life of comedian Mitch Hedberg. I'd cast Adam Scott (Party Down, Parks &
Recreations) & shoot it in Minnasota. Maybe one day....

JG- LAST BUT NOT LEAST - THE QUESTION I HAVE ENJOYED ASKING A LOT LATELY- WHAT IS

JH-I'm actually a big fan of musicals. I think it's a lost art & a genre that has
sort of been forgotten. I spent about a year developing a zombie western
musical that would have been my 1st film if it ever got off the ground. We
always joke about making a musical, stage adaptation of Beverly Lane. Forget
remakes & sequels, jazz hands need to return! You said guilty pleasure though so
this won't be in the interview right? Right??

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS 911 WEEKEND

Here we are , 10 years latter . A decade since the awful tragedy in our country. Where are we now? How are we as a country now? How are we as individuals now? So many everyday folks, just going to work to earn money for their families. Just working for their rent , bills , food ,and maybe even a fun time out on the town with their families, or a secret plan to surprise their significant others with a dinner and a play . I think about how the morning must have went , have some breakfast , the usual eggs and bacon and some wheat toast with jam, checking out the sports page or ads in newspaper, then climb into car , or get to subway and head off to work, knowing they have a busy week ahead with deadlines or projects to start. Then , all of a sudden their lives changed forever- some for years on some for only a few more hours. I remember that morning like it was 10 days ago- not 10 years ago. I know it changed me and I did NOT know anyone in the tragedy ,at least that I am aware of. I know today I am more aware of people , more aware of how people treat others, and that even the smallest thing, can mean the world to someone , to me. I don’t always act like it or the way I should, but I am aware more then ever how it can effect me, others and my family. To this day , I get teary eyed thinking of it at times. I know why more on a personal note, why I enjoy things I do , or how my enjoyment changed. Why the hell do I love my Colts football so much? Why the hell do I enjoy my horror movies and my music so damn much? These things take me away from the doldrums of life and give me a breathe of fresh air, a breather from the harshness (to whatever extent that may be)- of life. To watch my team come together as a TEAM to set on a common goal and to achieve that goal together, UNITED as one driving force. To watch a person fight and fight to survive against all odds when faced with that masked killer, or at least go down kicking and screaming putting up a fight. The music, it takes me to younger days when life was not as serious , where it can take me to a world of my own, and bring back memories of a time gone by. Yes- I am so stuck in my 80s, but I have such good memories of that time, and it is all cherished. My family- it brought my family closer. To hear my parents tell me they respect me , to close the distance with my brother and his family , to be in touch more then ever with my very much loved niece and my nephews! To see them grow up and get married and start their own families. My wife and kids- what would I ever do with out them- I do not know- life would take a huge step back if I didn’t have them- they mean the world to me! So now- a decade latter- a time where our world has changed , our country has changed. The sadness of that dreadful day still remains- but I know- that all the folks lost on that day , all the firemen who were lost , police officers lost -their sacrifices are not unnoticed nor unappreciated . The lessons learned for me taught me to not know- but to UNDERSTAND how great life is and can be, how amazing people are and can be, and how UNITED we can accomplish so much together as a country ,as a family. The trivial things in life are just that- but they to mean something- our little quirks are the little special things that make life zesty. So bring on the football , movies , music , FAMILY ,friends , these are things that make my life more fun and exciting-and this at this time the anniversary of our 9/11 tragedy , it makes me be grateful for these things all the more . In midst of teary eyes of sadness , there is some joy that reminds me of why we are here, among all the sadness and sorrow for the families who lost loved ones 10 years ago- lets live life as great as possible , as amazing as possible , LIVE life in tribute to so many who lost theirs, and cherish those who come into our lives everyday- for they just want their eggs , bacon, maybe a bagel , a cup of coffee , and to go to work and make money for their families also. Thank you all for being my friends, my family, my extended family- it means a lot to me to know I have you all in my life !

JG - WHERE DO I BEGIN- YOU HAVE DONE SO MANY AWESOME FILMS-,WORKED WITH SO MANY AWESOME FOLKS AS ACTOR AND STUNTMAN.EVERYONE FROM STEVE MARTIN , WILLIAM SHATNER, HECK STAR TREK IV-VOYAGE HOME CREW, TO DOING STUNTS IN SUMMER RENTAL ,COCOON , DAY OF THE DEAD,THE LIST GOES ON AND ON- WHAT GOT YOU TURNED ON TO WORKING IN THE FILM INDUSTRY?

JOR -It was completely by accident, actually. When I was very young I travelled around the country performing as “The Youngest Professional Magician,” working with Harry Blackstone, Jr., The Great Tomsoni, and David Copperfield. A television producer saw me in one of those shows and approached me afterwards with an offer to appear in a television commercial. Not knowing anything about acting, I turned him down. This guy saw something that he wanted, though, and after a week of him begging my agent and my parents, I caved in and agreed to do the commercial. I was probably in 5th grade, at the time. Well, that led to other jobs on TV, in films, and on the stage. Since I have also studied Martial Arts from a young age, that led into stunt work. I, basically, went from having no interest in being an actor to suddenly being thrown into it. I don’t regret it, though, as it’s been a fun ride.


JG -YOU ARE QUITE A TALENTED MAN. HOW DID MAGIC BECOME A PART OF YOUR LIFE? WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO A FASCINATION WITH PERFORMING MAGIC?

JOR -I became interested in magic when I was in kindergarten. My parents took me to Disney World and I was fascinated by the Haunted Mansion ride. It’s still my favorite ride at the park. Even at that young age I recognized, while riding that attraction, that people could make a living fooling other people. There was a magic store outside the Haunted Mansion, at that time, and I found a Mickey Mouse magic set that I had to have. My parents bought it for me and a week later I was doing a magic show for my kindergarten class during Show-And-Tell. It was the art of illusion inside that ride that captured my attention and made me want to learn how to do it.


JG- THE MAN OF MANY TALENTS : MUSIC , SIGNING ,PHOTOGRAPHY , MARTIAL ARTS- SOME SAY A MAN WHO CAN DO SO MANY THINGS HAS YET TO MASTER ANY- BUT YOU FINE SIR- HAVE SEEMED TO MASTER QUITE A LOT, WHAT DRIVES YOU , WHAT MAKES YOU TICK AND PASSIONATE ABOUT SO MUCH TO BE ABLE TO SUCCEED IN SO MANY DIFFERENT AREAS???

JOR -That’s very nice of you, but I don’t think I’ve really mastered any of it. I’ve been lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to participate in a lot of different areas in the industry. I never wanted to be famous, I just wanted to work. So, in order to work you’ve got to be savvy on a lot of different things. If someone calls and asks, “Can you do this?” I want to be able to say, “Yes, I can.” You can get more jobs in this industry knowing a little of everything as opposed to mastering only one thing. So, I think the drive to become proficient in many different areas comes from wanting to succeed in the industry, overall.


JG- ALABAMA ! A BEAUTIFUL STATE, HOME TO LYNYRD SKYNYRD ,THE CRIMSON TIDE ! SO WHAT WAS IT LIKE GROWING UP IN THE SOUTH? I KNOW IT IS DIFFERENT THEN UP IN THE NORTH , WHAT ABOUT IT DID YOU REALLY LIKE ? WHAT DIDN’T YOU LIKE ?

JOR -I, actually, didn’t spend too much of my youth in the south. My dad was in the military, so we moved around. I was born in Alabama, started kindergarten in Tennessee, and by second grade was in Alaska. I lived in Anchorage, Alaska, until I graduated high school and then moved to Florida. Of course, I was flying a lot of places to work on various projects and even lived in New York for awhile as I attended the American Academy Of Dramatic Arts, so I’ve been influenced by a number of different cultures. I’m back in the south now, though. I do like the people… most are very, very nice… and the lifestyle is much slower. I do, sometimes, miss the electricity and excitement of the big city, though.


JG -NOW YOU HAVE DONE THIS CRAZY FILM BEVERLY LANE , THE ‘OFFICE SPACE MEETS ZOMBIES” ! TELL ME ,WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO BE ON THE SET OF THIS CRAZY FILM? PLAYING ADAM CADABRA? HE HAD ME IN STICHES, I WAS ROLLING!!

JOR -Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed the film and my character. This was an extremely fun film to work on. Joshua Hull crafted an incredibly witty script filled with outrageous characters. Josh has a fantastic mindset for comedy and the relationships of different types of people who are thrown into crazy situations. The cast that was assembled were an incredibly talented group of people who came to the set prepared and ready for action… even when I’d go off on a tangent and start adlibbing lines. The rest of the cast just followed and played along like true pros. It was very freeing, as an actor, to be able to genuinely react with other actors and just comfortably take a scene into a new direction. I have to thank Joshua Hull and Jim Dougherty, the co-producer / cinematographer, for allowing that kind of freedom and creative atmosphere to exist on set. It truly was like a big family just playing together.


JG -RECENTLY YOU HAVE HAD A FILM (UNDERGROUND ENTERTAINMENT) BASICALLY DROPPED FROM A VENUE FOR ITS CONTENT , I KNOW IT’S A LOADED QUESTION , AND MAYBE THERE IS NO SHORT ANSWER OR COMMENT TO THAT, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGTHS ABOUT THAT SITUATION? DO YOU FEEL THAT THERE IS STILL A LOT OF CENSORSHIP IN THE FILM INDUSTRY IN GENERAL?

JOR -You are right… there’s no short answer… ha ha ha… Your readers can catch all the details on my Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/JimORear), as well as the film’s website (www.UETheMovie.com), but, basically, my business partner (Bryan Wilson) and I had the world theatrical premiere of our documentary UNDERGROUND ENTERTAINMENT: THE MOVIE set up to play at the Artcraft Theater as part of the B Movie Celebration in Franklin, IN. We were guaranteed this spot, repeatedly, for almost a year. Well, after all of the advertisements and promotions were underway, we were informed 3 weeks before the screening that they refused to play an uncensored version of the film… which is ironic because half of the documentary is about our fight against censorship. It turned out that there was a lot of other shady stuff going on there. Even the Mayor seemed to be involved… and using public funds to support this act of censorship.
Bryan and I have been fighting this type of small-minded mentality for over 20 years. In that time the system has loosened up quite a bit on the censorship front and it’s nowhere near as bad as it used to be. But, when politics starts mixing with religion and then starts mixing with private enterprise, as it all did in our Franklin, Indiana, incident, it’s walking the line of 1st Amendment rights and the legal separation of church and state. Not a pretty place for small town America to be and potentially harmful to the industry of independent filmmaking, overall, when it’s attached to an independent film festival.


JG -TWO MORE QUESTIONS- IF YOU COULD GO ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD- TO FILM A MOVIE , YOUR CHOICE OF TYPE OF FILM, THE STARS AND DIRECTOR, WHERE, WHAT AND WHO WOULD IT BE??

JOR -This may sound weird and completely whacked out, but… I’d like to film a comedy (either romantic comedy or musical comedy) in a small town in Massachusetts (I think it’s beautiful up there) directed by Tim Burton or Guillermo del Toro and starring Jennifer Garner, Kristen Chenoweth, Martin Sheen, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Love Hewett, and Samuel Jackson. How weird is that?


JG- THE LAST BUT NOT LEAST , WHAT IS YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE??? MAYBE A CLOSET LOVERBOY FAN??? MAYBE A CLOSET FAN TO DANCING WITH THE STARS?? INQUIRING MINDS WANNA KNOW!

JG- WHEN YOU WERE A YOUNG GIRL- WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE?

KD -I've always wanted to be an actress. In the 80's however I did waiver
a bit, and want to be Madonna. But I apparently waited too long and
Lady Gaga now has that covered.

JG- WHAT AND WHEN DID IT HIT YOU THAT ENTERTAINMENT WAS YOUR WAY TO
GO? AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE HORROR?

KD -Like I said from a small age I've always wanted to act, I did the
school plays and musicals all through out my childhood. Not to mention
the plays I'd make my sisters do at family gatherings for the entire
family. I still think they hold that against me LOL


JG- BEFORE YOU DID FILM, WHAT DID YOU DO?

KD -I've been raising my amazing kids. My kids are my life and I wouldn't
trade that for the world.


JG- IF THE FILM WORLD AND ANYTHING IN THAT ASPECT WAS NOT SOMETHING
YOU COULD BE DOING- WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO BE DOING ? LIKE NURSING?

KD-Nope, this is what I have always wanted to do. Every day is like a
dream come true.

KD-I grew up in Griffith, Indiana. It was a great small town, I often
compare it to Mayberry. I had great friends and an amazing family.
Every year the big to do was the 4th of July parade, and the Western
Days carnival.


JG- IF YOU COULD GO ON LOCATION TO ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD- ASIDE FROM
USA - WHERE WOULD YOU LOVE TO GO FILM?

KD -Paris, France and anywhere in Italy. I have always wanted to visit
there. I have such a fascination with the architecture in southern
Europe.

JG- WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM ROLE? DREAM FILM TO DO THAT ISNT HORROR
ORIENTED?

KD -My #1 dream role would be to play the mother in the Poltergeist remake.
That movie left such a mark on me. Non horror related. A part similar
to Meryl Streep's in The Devil Wears Prada. I love her character so
much in that movie!


JG- ARE THERE ARE ACTORS . DIRECTORS YOU WOULD DO LOVE TO WORK WITH?

KD -The list of actors I would love to work with is infinite. I have met
so many wonderful people in the industry. As for Directors, Rob Zombie
is my #1 choice aside from my husband Chris Jay. I love what Rob does
with his characters, and I have heard he is amazing to work with!

OCTOBER - BUSY BUSY MONTH- 30 FILMS 30 COUNTRIES

Okay- this is my task I am gonna attempt to do- as we all very well know- life happens- so- this will be done- with the hope life does not get in the way of this neat task! Does anyone have any suggestions for foreign horror aside from the usual Asia , France and Latino countries?? I will view- give a very short and sweet rating and synopsis- and then you go check it out hehehehe- please leave comments on blog as to suggestions if you could!

WITHIN THE WOODS REVIEW FROM EARLY 2011

Isn’t that a forewarning if I ever heard of one ! This - the mighty “demo” for the Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 is just that - a demo! Filmed all in Super 8 as was Evil Dead and several of the scenes were used in Evil Dead and in Evil Dead 2.

Well needless to say- innocently Bruce digs a fire pit and while doing so unearths a cross and an Indian ceremonial dagger. That is what I call “violated”- at least by Evil Dead standards. This is where it all gets interesting- the music , the sound effects, the very creepy things that really help make Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 classics.

To move ahead a bit- Bruce winds up being possessed- and goes on rampage with all the demonic sounds and gargled noises- and at one point screams in a demonic voice , which is pretty creepy, “join us” !The gore and blood is pretty cool- chopped off hands , people impaled on crosses and dismemberment.

This pretty much sums this short ‘demo” up- it runs a short 30-45 minutes , made via minimal funds , and it shows. As we all know, demos while in music- tend to be very rough loose “ideas” of the songs wanted to record- well this is a very loose scrappy short that grabs attention- grabs and puts you in frame of mind to want more or to see a full length with some money in it! So- would I buy or rent-? I would buy purely for the collecting sense for the beginnings of Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and the Evil Dead. It would be more suitable for a extra bit on a deluxe edition of Evil Dead then a “solo” shot release.

The camera work- jerky and handheld just like Evil Dead- and scrappy film look- the sound is creepy even though cheaply done. This was made in the way Evil Dead was- and in the way we have come to love the film Evil Dead -the quality and the “cheap”factor , the indie horror look and feel !Just remember- it’s a ‘demo”- it was made to convince ‘someone” that a full length needed to be made! This also shows the greatness that Sam Raimi is in directing and how witty Bruce Campbell can be- even way back in 1978.

I rated this as a demo and movie- if this was an actual movie- it had a little potential and possibility- so a 3 and as a demo- great job on a idea to shop around so a 10 !

Zomedy
The film filmed in the wonderful wacky world of Anderson Indiana- talk about small town- weird town- what better place for zombies on parade!

Beverly Lane follows a local metal company as they celebrate the retirement of their longtime boss with a "Coney Island" themed party. Bored & angry, the workers find themselves stuck with clowns, a magician, a mime, and one very sick barbershop singer. Then all hell breaks loose...literally!

Stuck between zombies and a sideshow, the workers must learn to survive with each other or die trying.

Okay- what do you get when you cross the Office with a Zombie movie? You get a wonderful funny little gem called Beverly Lane! What would they do if the Zombie Apocalypse happened in small town America in the middle of a theme party- a theme party for a beloved boss who is retiring!

The cast make it all so fun- the holy roller who is quite flirtatious , the Zombie hunter , the Boss ,the new Boss , co employees a mime , and “gangsta” clowns and a world full of the undead! Can this team pull it out- can the work together to survive this end of days scenario- makes the whole “ stand in a line and catch the person as they fall “ trust game seem less hazardous now!

“what we did not plan for was a zombie apocalypse”
What will they do- fight or stay penned up and die- will they send someone out as bait? The cast go through many ideas and arguments about what the hell to do about this pressing issue- to hell with if overtime is okay , or can my vacation is paid for-what about the zombie outside the door eating our buddies eyes??

“ I use to pull things out of my hat for the kids party . Today I wasn’t planning on pulling anything out , but looks like plans have changed”
Hmm-do we see value in letting the drunk (or maybe sober) bloody stripper walking up the sidewalk- a blood one - hmmm- maybe her monthly friend is visiting- maybe eating ribs??

Melodramatic acting in some cases- enough to win the Meryl Streep award- but it fits so well for the film- because it is a zomedy- “I hope your all planning on staying after- because it is gonna be a long day of zombie smashing”

So in short- this simple film- that I could easily tell you the whole story of- is fun- witty- and a B-Rated blast- if you don’t believe me- then get into your Faith Circle - and start to believe - ,maybe God is keeping you from doing something you shouldn’t do- and God sent the zombies to stop you!

Do you know what sins you were gonna commit after 5pm?? The worst sin will wind up as zombie food!

Well- check this fun fest out- find it- find this fucker- and saw it in half just like the undead!
What is up next from Mr Hull and company- gee-lets see- a uplifting little piece of film- of life and death- of epic proportions - Idiot Gore- staring three horror hotties- Julie Anne and Kaylee Williams and Kitsie Duncan and many more amazing folks!!

JG - Here at Days of the Dead we have a wonderful vendor of the Batsmeow , Sheila Schroeder , with all things cool ,macabre and horrifying !

JG- So Sheila how has Days of the Dead been for you as a vendor?

SS -We don’t do a lot of horror conventions generally and this being the first time for this group we were a little skeptical but it’s been amazing! Traffic has been good, sales have been good, and people have been friendly and really fun hanging out.

JG - that is great to hear, I think this has been a lot more of a success then a lot of people anticipated especially for a first time around.

JG- So how else do you do your vendor work, do you go around …….

SS-We go to music conventions, in the Goth community. We do have a website, we go through Facebook, Twitter, blog, and we try to cover as much ground as we can.

JG What is your websites name?

JG - Awesome, I will make sure that this gets highlighted so people can come check it out!

JG So how did you get started in doing this work?

SS- Actually I had 4 kids ,the oldest two are boys , it was always easy to cloth them out of mainstream ,there is always black , always gray , there is always boy pirate ,and ninja clothes ,that are pretty awesome. But when I look had little girls I couldn’t find anything that wasn’t pink ,so I made a dress . Someone else wanted one, so I made one for them ,made a shirt, and someone else wanted one, so I made one for them So I was thinking I was making one for me , one for them and for anyone else who would want one ,may as well be a business !

JG - There you go- a good way to get started and get the chain reaction going! So do you feel that when the next convention comes around you will want to be a vendor at it?

SS- Ah, yes, I would sign up today if I had a date!

JG- Awesome! Well that is great to hear that it is all going well for you and Eric here with your shop , and I will wish you luck on your next endeavor at convention or music show , we will see you again!
