Visage started back in 1978 and were considered to many as the first of the New Romantic genre of the late 70s into the 80s music scene . They were fronted by the ever “visual” Steve Strange , Midge Ure and Rusty Egan . Midge and Rusty , formerly of the Rich Kids , joined forces with Steve at the close of his previous band the Photons . That is when it all happened. The magic. The ever incredible and innovative music of Visage. (A little bit of trivia, when Gary Moore bolted from Thin Lizzy in 1979 , Midge Ure helped fill in on the tour for TL and even aided on some music on the Black Rose album and also was one of the main dudes for the “Do They Know Its Christmas“ song !) Visage decied to up the personal and added former Magazine members and Billie Currie ( of Ultravox fame while John Foxx was the helmsman and before Uvox was in band called Tiger Lilly) .
Visage were quirky , creative and very ahead of the time for the time, even today some tracks can still bec considered slightly weird! They released a total of 3 albums , 12 singles and several compilations. Today Visage is still here- since 2004, Steve has brought the band back to life, and has been doing shows in Europe and now has a full band backing him up. The band he has is a band of former members of the electro synthpop band Seize. This is great news since the previous efforts he has had in music were ,lets say , not the best- his band after Visage and before this reincarnation, Strange Cruise was lacking in quite a few areas. So Thank you Steve for bringing back Visage -looking forward to some new tunes!
Ultravox started out as a brain trust of Billie Currie and John Foxx. The first 3 albums were with the awesome John Foxx, who had left and has had a brilliant career solo ( collaborating with the likes of Harold Budd and even the Cocteau Twins own Robin Gutherie). Midge Ure was the front man for a total of 5 albums then Tony Fennelle took over on the Revelation album and Sam Blue did vox on Ingenuity . That pretty much sums the personal up! Over all- there were 10 albums ,29 singles . Ultravox regrouped did a 30 year reunion tour throughout Europe and the UK and everything went so well that Midge , Warren and Billie has decided they were gonna hit the studio and do a new album ! This to me says one thing- there is a God ! They have released an ep from the tour called Memories of Eden and in LA they are recording the new tunes now! So- this is something I am very excited about.
